Building Dreams One Lake at a Time

Building Dreams One Lake at a Time

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul.— Psalm 23:1-3

The illustration in this verse of still water and restoration garners a vision in our mind of peace between earth and sky, that ribbon of translucence skimming across the surface of the horizon. Water holds a deep fascination for humans on what lies just below the surface. This separation into a whole other ecosystem by a thin waterline is a fascination for many of us, driving a dream of owning our own lake or pond.

Those of us who have these dreams are not alone. On average, according to nationwide property listings, a property that includes a lake or pond will sell for 5% to 15% more than a comparable property without a body of water. However, lake management and maintenance is crucial to consider when planning to construct a lake or pond. So partnering with experts in all facets of lake construction and fishery management is a must. A property with a well-maintained body of water and healthy ecosystem that is able to provide for its intended use (whether that be recreational or agricultural) can increase the value of a property far past the average growth of 15%. However, ensuring that there is a healthy ecosystem thriving beneath the surface is integral to the overall plan of lake design, lake construction, and fishery/lake management.

In the words of naturalist Henry David Thoreau: “The lakes are something which you are unprepared for; they lie up so high, exposed to the light, and the forest is diminished to a fine fringe on their edges, with here and there a blue mountain, like amethyst jewels set around some jewel of the first water, - so anterior, so superior, to all the changes that are to take place on their shores, even now civil and refined, and fair as they can ever be.”

Aquatic Environmental Services and their team of experts throughout the southeast wants to partner with you in the design, construction, management, and habitat creation of your dream lake or pond. Watching a family member catch their first fish or casting a line to witness a trophy fish leap to the bait from just below the surface of the water can be more than just a dream— and AES is here to help make it happen.
